Overview

The Poverty & Social Protection team at Oxford Policy Management is seeking a roster of qualified Uzbek–English translators and interpreters.

Position Summary

Translators and interpreters on the roster may be asked to:

  • Provide consecutive interpretation between Uzbek and English during interviews, meetings, and workshops.
  • Support research fieldwork by facilitating communication between international researchers and local stakeholders.
  • Translate written materials such as interview transcripts, research notes, presentations, and project documents.
  • Assist researchers in ensuring that local context and meaning are accurately conveyed during discussions.
  • Provide interpretation in person during field visits or remotely via platforms such as Zoom or Teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality and neutrality when handling research data and sensitive discussions.
  • Work flexibly with project teams to meet tight timelines during fieldwork.

Engagement Modality

  • Successful applicants will be placed on a translator roster for potential assignments.
  • Inclusion on the roster does not guarantee work, but provides opportunities to be contacted for assignments as project needs arise.
  • Assignments may vary in duration, location, and level of effort.

 

Key Qualifications / Experience / Skills / Behaviours

  • Fluency in Uzbek and English (spoken and written).
  • Demonstrated experience in interpretation and/or translation between Uzbek and English.
  • Experience supporting research projects, development programmes, NGOs, or international organisations is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to provide accurate, clear consecutive interpretation in meetings and interviews.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in-person in Uzbekistan when required.
  • Access to reliable internet and ability to support remote interpretation when needed.
