Position Summary

Balance sheet control and reconciliation

Following the implementation of a new finance system, a programme of work has been underway to rebuild and strengthen balance sheet reconciliations across the group. A reconciliation framework has now been established, and significant progress has been made across a number of entities. However, due to the number of group entities and balance sheet accounts involved, there remains a one-off volume of work required to bring all accounts to a fully reconciled position as part of the 31 March 2026 year end process.

  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for the UK entity and overseas group entities.
  • For some accounts this will involve reconstructing reconciliations from underlying transaction downloads (including migrated transactions from the previous finance system) and identifying reconciling items.
  • Investigate historic unreconciled balances, identify root causes, and prepare adjustment journals where required to bring accounts to a reconciled position.
  • Liaise with overseas finance managers to obtain explanations and supporting information for balances recorded in local ledgers.

Intercompany and consolidation support

  • Review branch loan balances and assess opportunities to clear balances
  • Reconciliation of intercompany income and intercompany costs between group entities

Overseas entity reporting review

  • Assist with the review of overseas entity statutory financial statements prepared by local external accountants or auditors. This will include reviewing how the financial statements have been derived and reconciling balances to the group finance system (Microsoft Dynamics 365), identifying and resolving differences where local accounting records are maintained alongside the group ledger.
  • Ensure any audit adjustments identified through the statutory accounts process are appropriately reflected in the group finance system and that the underlying causes of adjustments are addressed.

Preparation for the 31 March 2026 group year-end audit

  • Prepare audit-ready supporting schedules for key balance sheet accounts and assist with responding to audit queries.

Key Qualifications / Experience / Skills / Behaviours

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong financial accounting and balance sheet reconciliation experience.
  • Experience working with multi-entity or international groups.
  • Excellent Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a project-based organisation or with project accounting structures would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of accounting issues such as project accruals, deferred income, and work-in-progress balances.
  • Ability to investigate complex accounting issues
  • Experience with ERP systems (experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 desirable but not essential).
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.
